Celebrating 1 Year of the IMID BioResource!

30th September 2021 marks the 1-year anniversary of the NIHR IMID BioResource.
The IMID (Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases) BioResource is a national initiative aiming to recruit participants to support research into conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and connective tissue diseases, such as lupus. These conditions affect a large proportion of the UK population – with rheumatoid arthritis alone affecting over 430,000 adults aged over 16.
The project is funded by the NIHR BioResource and is run through Manchester in collaboration with Newcastle and Leeds.
Since opening in 2020, the IMID (Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases) BioResource has substantially expanded. The project is now open in 31 sites around the UK and has recruited over 700 participants.
Our Newcastle IMID Project Co-ordinator Amber Ali has worked very hard to open recruitment sites in locations such as: Wirral, West Suffolk, Lancashire & South Cumbria, and South Tyneside & Sunderland. Over the next few months, Amber hopes to continue her efforts by opening more recruitment sites up and down the country.
